Barkeater Chocolates, established in 2008, is a gourmet European style chocolate manufacturer in downtown North Creek. The company prides itself on creating artisan confections with a unique flare and flavors, such as Wasabi Ginger and Pumpkin Pie, that can only be described as a taste explosion. In 2010, owners Deb & Jim Morris, rolled out the 1 and 1/4 lb. Easter Egg truffle  in both dark chocolate and peanut butter designed for sharing over the holiday. The community response was overwhelming - with people driving from 60 miles away to get a hold of this rich confection. In 2010 - sales of the Giant Easter Egg Truffle tripled. In 2011, they rolled out Barkeater Bars, in three distinctive flavors such as Dark Chocolate & Sea Salt, named after Adirondack landmarks and events. The chocolates may be purchased at specialty stores throughout the Adirondacks, Capital Region & Hudson Valley - as well as online at the Barkeater Chocolates website (www.barkeaterchocolates.com).

What Is Distinctive And Authentic To The Character Of The Region

The name Barkeater is a literal translation of the word Adirondack - a term used by the Mohawk Indians. The gourmet bars are aptly named the Downhill Darksider Bar (dark chocolate & sea salt) in honor of alpine skiing at Gore Mountain; the Milky Mountain Mud Bar (milk chocolate with almonds) is affectionately named after the Adirondacks' spring season (AKA Mud Season); and the White Water Wonder Bar (white chocolate with coconut) is named after the rapids and the popular rafting business that keeps the area thriving all summer long. They also create flavors around locally produced products - such as the seasonal Adirondack Maple Truffle which uses maple sugar sourced from nearby Thurman.
